Dear Mr. President,
As American Syrians, we urge you to act quickly and firmly against the atrocities being committed by the Assad regime in Syria. The atrocities are well documented by a multitude of human rights organizations, journalists, and videographers.
The Middle East is changing quickly and we can not wait. We run the risk of losing ground that we have gained recently by standing with the people of Egypt and Libya against their brutal dictators. If we don't align ourselves with the people of Syria and ask for Assad to depart quickly, we will lose credibility and legitimacy and will be viewed as co-conspirators and will be guilty of allowing Assad to continue to repress, oppress, and torture his people. Assad's regime is the most repressive regime humanity has seen.
Further, we risk Iran gaining more and more legitimacy, credibility, and stature in the new Middle East, while our influence diminishes. This is extremely damaging and will spell major ramifications for the future. We can not allow this to happen at all costs.
On behalf of Syrians everywhere, we ask you to take solid action against Assad and to make stronger statements against Assad and ask for him to quickly leave Syria and allow Syrians to live freely and with dignity.
Waiting will only compoud the problem. We can not wait until he is ousted. We have to lead the way!
