American Syrians Syria Revolution News from an American Perspective in English BlogEngine.NET en-US AmericanSyrians American Syrians 0.000000 0.000000 Syrians elect US educated Damascene Kurd to lead transitional government
The Syrian National Coalition has elected a Damascus born Kurd, who spent most of his adult life in Texas, North Carolina, and other parts of the United States as the leader of the transitional government in waiting. Ghassan Hitto is an IT professional and has lived in Texas, North Carolina and other states. He currently resides in Turkey, leading the Syrian government in waiting. This is a major step because for two years the Syrian opposition could not agree on who would lead the transitiona and how. The Free Syrian Army inside Syria is also on board pledging allegiance to Hitto and his transitional government. The fact that he is Kurdish even lends more credence and unity to the notion that all Syrians are opposed to Assad's murderous regime. Now is a good time for the Obama adminstration to recognize Mr. Hitto's government as the only true representatives of the Syrian people. Obama and Clinton have stated that they are waiting for a united opposition. It doesn't get more united than this.
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 19:27:00 -0700 Mohammed 59 Top Alawite Brigadier General Defects
A top Alawaite, Major General Mohammed Khalouf and his son, have both defected and abandoned Syria's brutal dictator, Bashar Assad. In a television interview after his defection he stated that morale amongst troops is very low and that they are trying to recruit new infantry because they have run out. With the opposition's Free Syrian Army now numbering over 100,000 and fighting erupting in the streets of downtown Damascus, the Maj. General says that the end is near.

The defection of a top Alawaite Major Genral and his top ranked son is "huge" when you talk to Syrians and Syria analysts. The Alawite community does not stand with Assad and this is another example of Alawites breaking with Assad. Assad has hoped that the Alawites would stick with him, but time and time again they have broken ranks. Assad has tried sending recruiters and his thugs to the Alawite mountains to recruit young men as soldiers. The Alawites refused and in-fighting broke out between Assad's thugs and their Alawite brethren. The relationship has been slowly degenerating since that time. Assad has had to resort to scud missiles and rockets to bombard towns, because he doesn't have soldiers left.

The defection of such a high ranking Alawite was never thought to be possible, but the brutality and injustice has lead even the loyalist of Assad supporters to break rank and abandon this lost cause.
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 19:09:00 -0700 Damascus Obama Mohammed 199 Most brutal torture and murder video
If you are faint at heart, don't click through to watch this video. In this video, Syrian government troops round up a group of about 5 men. The men are huddled into a corner with their shirts pulled over their heads and their hands handcuffed behind them. They taunt and yell at the men for a while. They pose and take "funny" pictures and wave at the videographer. But what happnes next is horrific beyond description.

They choose two men to stay behind, while they escort the rest out. It isn't apparent where those other men were going. The two that remain end up experiencing one of the sickest and most brutal torture episodes ever caught on video.

They Syrian soldiers start by using knives to slowly start tearing the mens shirts off. They pick away very superficially just tearing their shirts. Then they start picking away making incisions into the skin of their backs. They laugh and joke, and show one another various techniques. They beging taking pride in how skillfull they are at torturing these two poor guys. They then begin making hard and deep jabs at them. Into their sides, near their kidneys, into their lungs. When the two men don't fall and don't collapse, they stab them in the legs and in the knees until they fall onto their knees.

Then they begin jabbing their knives deep into their backs. Then they start jabbing into their necks from the back, right at the spinal cord. Then a few side swipes at the neck into the carotids and jugulars. Then a few more stabs in the back in the spine. Then men are visibly handicapped and can no longer react and are probably paralyzed and or have bled out internally at this point.

They kick the men to the ground even further and then take large concrete cinder blocks and throw them at the mens' heads. You see the concrete shatter as it hits their heads. They throw a few more slabs of concrete on the men and then celebrate and leave.

This happens every day in Syria. This is not a one time episode. This happens daily. All around the country. People are tortured and killed brutally.

If you thought that was disturbing, try imagining that video with the two victims as women. Being poked, prodded, and dismembered with knives. That happens every day. It is not unusual or rare.

That is Syria. That is why the Syrian people want out. They have endured over 40 years of this and now the world gets to see it on YouTube.

Call President Obama and your senators and tell them to do something!

Wed, 02 Jan 2013 20:02:00 -0700 Massacre Obama Torture Video Mohammed 879 60,000 have been murdered
As the two year anniversary of the Syrian revolution approaches, well over 60,000 Syrians have been killed at the hands of their very own government. A government that is supposed to be protecting them. Meanwhile, the entirety of the world watches, debates, discusses, and doesn't decide on anything.

Women, young and old, are being systematically raped. Children are being tortured, brutalized, and killed. Men of all ages are being detained, tortured, raped, poked, proded, and dismembered. No one is safe from this brutal regime.

As the second year anniversary approaches, we pray that this nightmare ends soon. We pray that world leaders will stop hitching their wagons to the Assad train. While most Syrians view Obama as ineffective, obstructionist, and useless, there actually is a method to his madness. Unfortunately, Mitt Romney hasn't offered convincing evidence that he would be any different.

Further, a vote for Romney, is a vote for the tea party. No one has demonized and attempted to marginalize Muslims more than the extreme right. It's time to put an end to that. America will not stand for bigotry and racism.

We encourage all 1,000,000 Syrian Americans to go out an vote to re-elect President Obama. Put your disappointment aside and elect an excellent representative of America abroad and at home. We can't go backwards and we can't encourage Muslim hating, black hating, gay hating, women hating, Latino hating, and poor hating behavior. More decisive action now will help protect American interests in the region and allow the United States to play a larger role in the shaping of a post-Assad Syria, the letters argue.

The Coalition for a Democratic Syria is a partnership of Syrian Americans seeking to end the bloodshed and foster a transition to a free and democratic Syria. To date, the conflict there has left more than 23,000 dead and created more than 250,000 refugees.

Dr. Radwan Ziadeh, a spokesman for the Coalition and a member of the Syrian National Council and the Executive Director of the Syrian Center for Political and Strategic Studies in Washington, announced the release of the letters during a briefing in Tampa about his recent fact-finding trip to the region. Dr. Ziadeh visited refugee camps along the Turkish border and met with elements of the Free Syrian Army while in Syria.

America’s adversaries in the region – Iran and Hezbollah – are working to prop up the Assad regime, which is a key supporter of terrorism. The state is a transit point of arms to Lebanon and a major impediment to Middle East peace. Acting now to hasten the demise of the regime is a vital US national security interest, Ziadeh said.

“We believe that by working with regional partners to strengthen support for vetted members of the Syrian opposition, America can … save lives, reduce the risk of regional instability and increase our nation’s ability to shape the outcome in a critical region where we have major interests and crucial allies,” the letter from Coalition Chairman Dr. Mahmoud Khattab states.

The Coalition asks Obama and Romney to endorse significantly increasing the supply of defensive arms, including anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, as well as strengthened intelligence, training and funding support to carefully vetted elements of the Free Syrian Army, and to support tougher measures to protect civilians and enforce the democratic transition through the creation of no-fly zones. It also calls on the United States to commit to funding local governance councils in liberated areas so that they can provide basic services to the people and foster the development of democratic institutions.

You can find the full text of the letters here:
Thu, 30 Aug 2012 05:52:00 -0700 Obama Syria Mohammed 43 Syria Event at GOP Convention
The Coalition for a Democratic Syria (formerly American Syrian Coalition) has an event in 30 min at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. In all of their press releases, videos, and statements, they stress that they have killed Sunni informants, Sunni spies, Sunni regime leaders, and Sunni members of Assad's forces. They stress that you haven't heard of a single Alawite town being massacred. Not a single one. Read their full statement.

A translation of statements released by the Free Syrian Army. These statements were compiled from videos, press releases, Facebook posts, and Twitter posts:

"We the Free Syrian Army are not fighting a sectarian war. We are fighting Assad's criminal forces. Regardless of religion. If you take a look at our movements and our actions, we have killed far more Sunnis than anyone from any other religion or sect. Just last week, we killed over 30 Sunnis loyal to Assad in an assasination campaign. They were all spies and informants or people who have tortured the civilians that we are protecting."

"Have you heard of any massacres of an Alawi (Alawite) village? No. The Free Syrian Army has over 70,000 men and we control all of the land west of the cities from Turkey to Jordan. If we wanted to massacre an Alawite town, we could do it very easily. But we aren't doing that. That is not what God's people do. Those Alawites in those towns are oppressed and are supporting us. We are protecting them too! We are not sectarian, we are fighting those that fight us."

"If anyone claims that the Free Syrian Army is sectarian, show us the proof? Where are the Alawite massacres? Where are they? The Christians and Alawites in our areas support us and are helping us. And we are protecting them from Assad."
Fri, 13 Jul 2012 05:58:00 -0700 Obama Syria Mohammed 50 Annan should step down and stop his mission
Since Kofi Annan began his mission in April of 2012, Syrians have experienced more death, more massacres, more torture, more shelling, more destruction, more devastation, more humiliation. The Free Syrian Army is growing rapidly, progressing with their techniques, and is evolving quickly on the ground. Top level defections are customary now, and the Free Syrian Army is more organized than ever. They are going to win this on their own, and it won't be long. Large corridors of Syrian territory are no longer controlled by Assad. He has to fly in his military to border checkpoints, because the land routes are all cut off and secured by the FSA.

The United States and western world are non-factors. The Free Syrian Army has created their own safe-zones, have seized their own weapons, and are collecting an armament of weapons from defectors and military bases that they capture. An organization called Syrian American Forum, founded by New Jersey orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nasser Ani, M.D., has invited Grand Mufti Hassoun to speak in Washington DC. We vehemently oppose this decision and this choice of speaker. Dr. Ani and Hassoun are promoting anti-American sentiments, terrorism, and hatred.
